KBC is a popular Indian game show based on the idea of the UK show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” This show is hosted by Bollywood superstar Sir Amitabh Bachchan that’s the major reason people love this show. KBC is a dream of billions of people in India who want to become rich within no time.
Anyone who is an Indian citizen of 18 years or above can register for KBC. No person can participate on behalf of another person. KBC just completed its season 11 on 29 November 2019. Sanoj Raj was the first contestant of season 11 to win 1 crore. The second winner was Babita and she also came back home with 1 crore. The audience would dial into a keypad what they think was the right answer. The results of the poll are displayed to the contestant.
The contestant can call a pre-selected friend or family member to get help. Once connected, they will have 30 seconds to discuss. In 2017, this was a video call instead of a voice call.
In season 4, 5, and 6, lifeline “Expert Advice” was added to the pool. The producer would invite general knowledge experts or celebrities to help the contestant.
This gives the contestant two chances to answer the question. The contestant must answer twice without using further lifelines.
Flip the Question
In this lifeline, the current question will be replaced with a new one. Any lifeline used on the original question will be continued.
The contestant can also bring a family member or friend to the show to get help.
KBC Prize Money
The total no. of questions available in the game have changed in several seasons. Though in season 11 the prize money was increased to 7 crores, and the no. of questions was 13 to 15. In this season the show’s tagline was Ade Raho (keep standing). Unfortunately, after season 8, nobody has won the jackpot of 7 crores. KBC lottery winner and KBC WhatsApp winner are also options to win the prize money.
Amitabh Bachchan Charges for Hosting KBC
As per the news, Amitabh Bachchan has charged 3 crores per episode in season 11. He charged 200 crores for 75 episodes in season 10. For season 9, Amitabh Bachchan was getting around 2.75 to 3 crore per episode.
Who Pays for KBC?
Sony TV is paying for the prize money. Channel is not paying the money from its pocket, it charges a huge amount from advertising companies during the Chhota Sa Break.
Broadcaster Sony picture Networks India Pvt. is expected to earn about 400 crores in advertising revenue from the show. In season 9, Reliance Jio Infocomm LTD has paid 100 crores for the deal. This is more than 3 times that Cadbury paid last season.
